“ Raqqa (located in northern Syria) is My City.”
In Monastiraki Square in Athens, the artist invited passersby to write whatever they wanted in public using calligraphy, a traditional Asian art form.
Most of the participants were immigrants and refugees from the Middle East, though some were tourists. She speculates that they took part in this action because they have limited opportunities to engage with Greek society and plenty of free time. They may also have few opportunities to have their voices heard or to be taken seriously.
