Zwei Gespräche
(Two Dialogues)

4-channel video installation

Exhibition at SOMA ART BERILN
In this video installation, there are two parallel conversations: one between a Korean who grew up in Germany and a Korean who immigrated there, and another between a half-Japanese person raised in Germany and a Japanese person who also immigrated to Germany.
They talk about Japanese colonial rule in Korea (1910–1945), World War II in Asia, and the ongoing political tensions between Japan and South Korea surrounding these historical events.
Education and environment have a big impact on how we understand history. The two Asian Germans, having grown up outside the frameworks of Japanese and South Korean society and state-driven education systems, may offer perspectives shaped by German historical education—allowing them to approach Asian history from a different angle.
