The artist found the original image for this work on a Chinese website. It’s archival footage capturing the moment a Japanese soldier kills a white prisoner of war during World War II.

This footage is often posted on non-Japanese websites, but rarely on Japanese ones. In Japan, more attention is given to the suffering caused by United States air raids and atomic bombings on the mainland. In contrast, the acts of aggression committed by the Japanese Empire abroad receive less attention. This illustrates how history can be recounted differently across countries and languages.
