Mio Okido is interested in miscommunication between people, especially those caused by difference in ideology,
nationality or cultural identity.
Currently her focus is on the role tragedies or catastrophes play in damaged communities and the kinds of history these communities document. What kinds of myths originate from these histories and how are they used to support their ideology.
Mio believes that archived photographs, which are treated as “evidence” of history, are iconographic representations of history themselves. For this reason she pursues her interest of iconography in archived footage and translates the pictures using different materials.
